With last week finale episode of game of throne garnered one of the highest views of the season, it would not be strange if the producer were already to plan the next seasons to come. As fans all around the world already knew, the epic saga show is based on series of book with the same name written by George R.R. Martin. In doing so, the running of the show is heavily influenced by the books. And as the books are planned to end in Season 7, could the show also end in the same number of seasons?

The news surrounding the series to end in Season 7 has been circulating quite a while on the internet and through several fans news. Although the first two seasons followed exactly the plot of the first book, the current season, Season 3, was only following the first half of the third book, Storms of Swords. Game of Thrones producer, Frank Doelger, told the radio times that the future seasons has been discussed with the production unit, stating that the show might get through to the seventh season. But even so, the fans also knew that Martin himself is still on the process of finishing the last two books, which are the sixth and the seventh book.

Plenty of fans of the show usually consider that the show will match up the book, with every season covering every book. But in reality, that is not the truth. With the third season could only cover the first half of the third book, the latter half of the book will have to be covered in the fourth season of the show. By doing so, it doesn’t seem to be possible for the show to be end in the seventh season since there are still four and a half book might have to be split into two seasons.

Although, the fans are also aware of the enigma of the fourth book that somewhat a little bit off of the story plot compared to the previous three. The fourth book mainly abandoned the previous story lines from the main characters of the book and instead introducing many new characters and story plots. Even so, the fifth book is made as a continuation of the first three book’s story plot. Thus, it could be a possibility for the show runner to just skip the fourth book and directly go to the fifth book.

But, if you have done your reading on the fifth book, you might find out how complex the story plot is that it might have to be split into two seasons just like the third. In order to avoid splitting, HBO might have to extend their total episodes from 10 to 13 just like any other cable series, or even 16 as AMC has done through the series of The Walking Dead. In doing so, it might be possible to cover a whole book in one season of series without cutting so many plots. As fans, we could only hope that show runner won’t spin too many story from the original so that it sacrifices the originality of the book.
