Game of Thrones Season 2 Episode 4 Recap
This episode presents us how information is important at times like this in Westeros. Westeros is not small. Information needs to travel a long way with a long time through various channels. Information can be used as power as well. Tyrion has demonstrated in the last episode that words can also be a powerful weapon just like swords. Misinformation can benefit as well, like what occurs to Robb, the King in the North, on his attack to the Lannisters.
There are words spreading at king’s Landing about the Young Wolf. They say that he brings an army of wolves to attack his enemies. When the enemies are dead, they eat the dead bodies. This is totally exaggerating. However, this benefits Robb as he marches more closely to Joffrey. The only thing that might be a trouble for him is when he is attracted to a woman he has just met. Surely he doesn’t know what will come afterward if he continues.
Speaking of Joffrey, he might be stressed about Robb’s march that he decides to punish Sansa for her brother’s victory. He has his guard to beat Sansa in front of the people in the castle, just for his pleasure. Then Tyrion comes in. He saves Sansa from his nephew and teaches him a difference between educating and threatening. Tyrion brings Sansa out and offers her an out but she refuses Tyrion’s offer and says that she is loyal to Joffrey. Seeing his nephew transforming into a sadist, Tyrion believes that it must be teenage hormones. That is why he sends two prostitutes to Joffrey’s room as a gift. However, Joffrey is indeed a real sadist. He makes one of the prostitutes hurt the other one, so that he can send a message to his uncle.
At Renly’s camp, Petyr Baelish arrives and receives poor welcome from everyone. Renly and he never get along very well since they were in the Small Council. He also presses Margaery with the fact that Loras comes to Renly’s tent more frequently than his own wife. Finally he meets Catelyn. He gets rejected but he keeps negotiating. He promises to trade Sansa and Arya with Jaime Lannister, although Sansa’s whereabouts is unknown. He even brings her Ned’s bones as a proof of his good intention.
Leaving the folks that revolves around the Throne, we can see that Dany and the rest of her Dothraki followers still can’t find a way through the Red Wasteland. Luckily, one of the Dothraki men can find the city of Qarth where the Thirteen of Qarth have an interest in her dragons. Although there is a problem in the beginning, finally they can enter the city. Meanwhile, Arya and Gendry are brought to Harrenhal. While waiting for their uncertain death, they are saved by someone unexpected: Tywin Lannister, who employs Gendry as a blacksmith and Arya as his cupbearer.
Finally, Stannis has taken supernatural ways in claiming his right for the Throne. He orders Davos to smuggle Melisandre ashore, so she can give birth to a deadly assassin.
