The Return of Old Characters

Although the third season of Game of Thrones has just ended recently, it doesn’t mean that HBO will continue to base the fourth season from the fourth book. The fact that they have to split the third book into two seasons shows that adapting Martin’s book into a TV series is quite challenging. HBO certainly was having a little hard time last season in keeping up with the old story line while introducing many other new characters. And the next season certainly will bring even more new characters from the book such as The Red Viper or Prince Oberyn Martell of Dorne.

Despite having to introduce more new character, Season 4 of Game of Thrones will also bring back several characters that we haven’t see for quite some times. Characters that will be back next seasons are including Janos Slynt (Dominic Carter), Lysa Arryn (Kate Dickie), Rorge (Andy Beckwith), and also Ser Alliser Thorne (Owen Teale). Other pivotal character such as Ser Gregor Clegane (Ian Whyte) and Lancel Lannister (Eugene Simon) will be expected to return despite there hasn’t been any clear confirmations.

For those who are not familiar with these characters, here are some of brief reminders on whom they are. Janos Slynt was sent to become a crow in the Nights’s Watch on Season 2 after having a conflict at Castle Black. Lysa Arryn was first seen in the first season as the twisted and crazy sister of Catelyn Stark who is the widow of Jon Arryn. Former prisoner Rorge was first seen in Harrenhal on the second season, in which it might prove that the show is going back to Harrenhal next season. A night’s watchmen Ser Alliser Thorne was last seen in the second season as one of the senior crow in the castle black.

Brief Trivia of The Game of Thrones

After airing for three consecutive seasons, there is no doubt that the show has been really popular among TV mania. Despite all of the success, HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo was once unsure about taking this book and turning them into one of their series. That doubt is certainly understandable for so many reasons. For instance, epic fantasy drama series is not something that is usually received well by the audience. With there are so many high budget fantasy movies, fantasy series could look cheap and low in quality compared to them.

The tipping point in which Lombardo gave a green light to the creation of this series was when he decided to hit the gym. Turned out that Producer and Casting Executives, Dan Weiss and David Benioff, was in the same gym. Lombardo encountered Weiss who was reading the first book of Game of Thrones while riding one of the bicycles. He saw how passionate Weiss was in reading the book with all of his yellow notes and underscore sticking to his book. At that point Lombardo was convinced that these guys breathe and live the book. He took a chance on this show and it certainly pays off a great deal.
